The Department of Health and the Executive Yuan classifies hospitals into community hospitals, district hospitals and medical centers according to the number of beds, facility establishment criteria, number of physicians and ER specialties. A medical center for example, should provide more beds, with outpatient clinics and higher-quality services and facilities. In Taoyuan County, currently only the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Gueishan, its Linkou Branch and the children’s hospital are qualified as medical centers, and others are either community or district hospitals.
