China's Furniture Museum was built in response to government efforts in recent years to encourage cultural development. Its purpose is to continue and promote the culture of traditional Chinese furniture and to coordinate with the rich forest resources of Taoyuan County and the quality traditional furniture craftsmanship of Dasi Township.
Occupying over 300 pings, the museum is located in the basement of the Taoyuan County Cultural Center. The museum has two functions: (1) to collect and display a wide range of furniture; and (2) to engage in research and education. The museum is dedicated to displaying Chinese furniture, traditional furniture and modern furniture based on traditional craftsmanship techniques. Most exhibits are of Chinese traditional wooden furniture, with a focus on the development, function and craftsmanship of the furniture; and furniture made with other materials. Furniture from the Ming and early Qing dynasties demonstrate traditional Chinese furniture, and Taiwanese furniture from earlier periods are examples of furniture in the Qing Dynasty. It also gives an overview of traditional furniture makers in Dasi, Taoyuan.
